Privacy Policy

Last updated October 9, 2026

AWKN (Awaken Your Fire) is a discipline and journaling app run by El Mehdi Reuhy, an independent developer. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who helps process it, and what you can do about it. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

What we collect

Account details: when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, email address and, if that service shares it, your profile photo. We never see or store your password.

Your answers during onboarding: the name you want to be called, your faith mode, wake time, what you are becoming, what breaks your word, when it usually wins and what you will do instead, your oath and the signature you draw under it.

What you record in the app: Morning Protocol and Evening Debrief entries, State Checks and their notes, your answers when a streak breaks, habits and their check-offs, challenges, favorites, and the experience points, ranks and badges earned from them.

Apple Health, only if you connect it: daily totals of your sleep (hours, bedtime and wake time), workouts, steps, active energy, resting heart rate, heart rate variability and mindful minutes. Totals only, never the individual readings. See "Apple Health" below.

Your phone's time zone, so your weekly report arrives on your own Sunday evening.

Error reports: if the app crashes or an error occurs, a report with technical details (device model, iOS version, app version and what failed) is sent so we can fix it. These reports do not include what you write in the app, and we do not attach your IP address to them.

Usage events: which screens you open and a few key steps (each onboarding step reached, the plans screen shown, a purchase started, completed or cancelled, a Morning Protocol or Evening Debrief completed), with your device model, iOS version, app version, language and approximate country. They never include what you write, your name or your email, and we do not keep your IP address with them. Once you sign in they are linked to your account by an internal identifier.

How we use it

To run the app for you: keep your journal, habits, streaks and progress, and show them back to you on any device where you sign in.

To choose your daily content: quotes and prompts are picked to match your onboarding answers and faith mode.

To write your weekly After-Action Report, which reads back your week. See the next section.

To keep the app working: error reports are used only to find and fix problems.

To improve the app: usage events show where people stop, for example at which onboarding step, so we know what to fix. They are used only to understand and improve the app, never for advertising.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

AI features

The After-Action Report is written by OpenAI's models. To produce it, a summary of your week's numbers is sent to OpenAI together with that week's journal entries and streak-break answers.

Before any of your writing reaches the model, it passes through an automated safety check (OpenAI's moderation service). If it suggests you may be in crisis, no AI answer is written; the app shows you real crisis resources instead.

We ask OpenAI not to store these requests. Under OpenAI's API terms, data sent through the API is not used to train its models; OpenAI may keep it for a limited period to detect abuse.

Weekly reports are stored so you can read them again.

Apple Health

Connecting Apple Health is optional, and you choose in Apple's own permission sheet which data AWKN may read. If you connect it, the app sends your daily totals for the last two weeks to our database so your weekly After-Action Report can set them beside your discipline.

Your health data is used for your report and nothing else. It is never sent to OpenAI or any other AI service, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold or shared with anyone.

When you finish a Before Battle breathing session, AWKN saves it to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes, if you allowed that.

Disconnect in Settings and every health number AWKN holds is deleted. Deleting your account deletes them too. You can also stop AWKN reading Health at any time in the Health app.

Who processes your data

We use a small number of service providers, each only for the job described:

Clerk: sign-in and account management. Neon: the database that holds your account, your journal and, if you connect it, your Apple Health totals. Expo (EAS Hosting): runs the app's server and delivers push notifications, through Apple. OpenAI: the weekly report and the safety check. Cloudflare R2 and ImageKit: store and deliver images and audio. Sentry: error reports. PostHog (servers in the European Union): usage events. Inngest: runs scheduled jobs such as the weekly report. Apple: in-app purchases and subscriptions, handled through Apple's own systems. RevenueCat: manages your subscription status; it receives your account identifier and purchase history, never your journal.

These providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States.

Notifications

Reminders such as your daily word and the warning before your danger hour are scheduled on your phone. You can turn them off at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

If you allow notifications, we store your phone's notification address with your account so our server can tell you when your weekly report is ready. We send news and new challenges only if you say yes to Word from AWKN, and you can turn it off in AWKN, Settings, Notifications. Signing out removes the address.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your account and everything recorded in it are removed from our live database. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.

Your choices and rights

Delete your account: Settings, then Delete Account. This removes your account and your data.

Export your journal: Settings, then Export.

Change your answers: your faith mode can be changed in Settings; for anything else, contact us.

Access, correct or erase your data, or ask a question about this policy: write to awkn.support@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

AWKN is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Your data travels over encrypted connections, and access to it is limited to what running the app requires. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you entrust to us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app when the change matters.
